The basics

What Domain Rating actually tells you

Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs’ measure of how strong a website’s backlink profile is, scored from 0 to 100 on a logarithmic scale. Here is how to think about it.

DR

What it measures

The strength and quantity of other sites linking to a domain, relative to every site in the Ahrefs index. More quality links means a higher score.

What it is not

DR is not your Google ranking, your traffic, or a Google metric. A high DR helps, but it does not guarantee rankings on its own.

How to raise it

Earn links from relevant, authoritative sites through content worth citing, digital PR, and genuine outreach. Quality beats volume every time.

Reading the score

What a good Domain Rating looks like

DR is relative and varies by industry, so treat these as rough guideposts, not hard rules.

0–29
New or growingEarly-stage sites still building their first links.
30–49
EstablishedA real backlink base. Competitive for mid-difficulty keywords.
50–69
StrongA trusted domain that can rank for harder terms.
70–100
AuthorityHousehold-name territory. Very hard to compete with head-on.
